Overview

Melbourne is home to two Suncorp Super Netball teams, the Melbourne Vixens and the Melbourne Mavericks, both of whom play home games at John Cain Arena, located in the heart of the Melbourne Park sports precinct. Multiple world-class events are hosted in these top-tier sports venues, including the Australian Open.

Recognised as Australia's largest female participating sport, there are over one million netball players across the country, from grassroots to national levels.

Origin Australian Diamonds

At national and international levels, Melbourne is also home to the Origin Australian Diamonds. Ranked number one in the world as of 2024, the national netball team represents Australia at events including the Netball World Cup and Netball Nations Cup, as well as the annual Constellation Cup against New Zealand. In 2023, the Diamonds took home the coveted Netball World Cup trophy following a brilliant win over the England Roses at the World Cup in South Africa, 61 to 45.

Constellation Cup

The Constellation Cup has taken place since 2010 and is an international netball competition between Australia and New Zealand, with matches taking place on both sides of the Tasman. The Origin Australian Diamonds team has won 11 of the 14 Cups, including in 2023. The team is keen to defend their title in 2024 - stay tuned for match details coming soon.
